An Old Thing Of Value !!

An Old thing of Value , Only to me.

Who knows how old this canner is.. I could guess maybe 35 - 45 years old.
It has canned lots of different kinds of vegetables and served me well over the years.
It has preserved hundreds of jars of food to feed my family of 6 for years, in fact I'd say 49 years now .
We used to raise our own beef (unless the kids made pets out of them and then we'd have to sell them and buy one off our brother in law )
I have canned beef stew,Beef ribs,and everything of beef I could .O my,in the cold winter when it would snow I could go down to my can shelves and bring up something good,just pop off the lid and it was ready to serve along with;
mashed tators
and a can of green beans,
with chow chow ,kraut or pickles ,
which I also had made.
We used to raise our own hams , yep, a 4 footed hog so we knew what was in our meat....I canned the sausage and ribs .Sausage
I remember opening cans of those ribs ,

Barbecue Pork Ribs

Put 2 quarts Canned Ribs in a baking dish,
cover with barbecue sauce & 1/4 cup of chopped onions
bake in 350* oven for 30 minutes. Yum yum.

At Christmas for years, my dear husband would put the 20-25 pound ham in it and take it down the stairs to our basement . He would build a fire in our Franklin Stove and keep it going all day and into the night until the Ham tested done.
Now most folks baked theirs but we liked it moist and boy it was so good...
Put some mustard on a slice of bread and pepper on the ham .... that was eating high on the hog .
But I don't do them any more since he's gone.

So you see ; This really has been and still is .. "A thing of value " to me.

Friends

I may not be here for a while,

My best friend and companion of 47 years went home to be with the Lord July 28,2007 at 10;14 am. I was holding him in my arms when he left.I had been holding his coffee cup letting him sip coffee as he was tired and weak not sleeping much for the past couple of nights.

He did not die of cancer. All the x-rays could not even find the tumors so doctors told us the cancer was gone.

God is good.

He also had COPD which is chronic obstructive pulmonary Disease . Thats put such a strain on his heart as his lungs struggled to get oxygen in to his lungs that he had a heart attack.

He had a heart attack in 1982 and surgery in 1983.And no more heart problems since.

When it comes your appointed time you are going out of this world and something in this body has to quit working.

But Paul said to the believers ," absent from the body is present with the Lord".

So I know where he is and I am going to be with again when my appointed time comes to leave this world.

The Comforter has truly been with me and my 4 children . Their spouses have been a tower of strength for me through it all. They still are here helping me make good decisions and going with me to get everything that you have to done. What a reward to see Christ in the actions of my children and the peace that passes all understanding that God has given to each of us during this valley time in our lives.

Isa,53.4 has truly been fulfilled in our lives .surly he hath bore our griefs and carried all our sorrows.

The food that came into my home at this time was so much we had to send some to the abused Women & Children Shelter Home .I have never seen such an abundance of food anywhere in my whole life!

Where I had been at hospital with Bill my pastor and his mother vacuumed and cleaned my home for me the day he died. What humble Servants of God

God went before me and provided all that I needed and still is doing that.

He is such a big God I can not comprehend him.It amazes me that he loves this Ole sinner and saved me by grace( a gift of God )

The day of receiving friends there was a rainbow over our church where we were and it had NOT rained that day. At least not in our community. God's sign that he keeps his promises if we trust in him.

I can truly say ; God keeps his promises and I stand amazed!

I can't wait to see him for there is No earthly words to thank him or to describe him with here.

Come soon Lord Jesus.

Praise the lord! Thank You Father!!! 2 other tumors also was shrunk very tiny .

They will continue to check him each month and do ct scan every few months.Keeping a good watch on him.

Now he is concerned with his hemoglobin count falling so fast in 9 days ( from11 to 8 ) so took 5 vials of blood to do test on him. This too shall pass.

He has had 5 units of blood in a little over a month.

Things sure are looking up for him.

Spring is coming and the crocus , daffodils and lilies are soon to be blooming with the tulips. The beauty of the first flowers of the new year in their newness of life.

Mike's Knee high Socks

Vacation!!!!!!
magnify

Well I have been knitting along at times & here's the proof. They are too big to get all of them on my scanner since I don't have a camera.

The Trekking socks for my son are almost finished! About 6 more inches on the cuff to go. He wears knee socks as his calves are so muscular that 7 inch cuffs won't stay up on him.So I have to make 14 inch cuffs .

The pattern takes me a bit longer to do as its *k2,p2 for 8 rows *, k2 rows then *p2 ,k2,* for 8 rows and k 2rows.Repeat pattern for as long as you want cuff.

I am getting away for a few days this week. So not be checking in here till maybe Saturday night.

Looking forward to getting some reading in and just relaxing in general .Something I haven't done for about 8 months .

My son has a cabin in the hills of Tenn. and he is coming to take us up there from Wed. - Sat.

Everyone have a nice week.

Little Knitting These Days

magnify

Have finished one of 12 year old Rebekah;s mittens and got this much done on Hannah's Scarf.

Helping my son in law in his Tax office for a few weeks and boy am I tired when I get home at night.

Pulling files, handing out checks, and writing receipts , and refiling . My back is giving me a fit from bending to the bottom files drawer. But I love doing this.

I am so thankful I can help him.

I don't have much off time to knit. Most of the day , we don't have time to eat.

People come in on their lunch hour. I keep him water on his desk.

OK . gotta get that Sunday School lesson together and finish up , I am about ready for bed....

Have a great Sabbath every one.

Writing Prose - Snow

Snow
Woke up to an inch of snow on the ground and its still snowing with schools closed because of slick roads in the mountains. So here I set writing my thought .Been a long time since I did this.

Snow !!!!!!

Let it snow ,let it snow.
Beautiful white flakes falling out of the sky
making the atmosphere
so still and quiet
stay in bed children
no school today

Mom relax
no hassle and bussel
from here to there
no hurry hurry today
do u feel it
peace so still

put on a pot of soup to simmer
play a game with the kids
time for those things pushed aside
that brings closeness

sleigh rides yes
till all mittens are wet
snow ball fights
no one wins
who cares

when can we do this again
I forgot how much fun
we used to have
hot chocolate never so good
the best soup in town
on our table

for these blessings
Lord we give you thanks

Memory is Sweet

Christmas Play
Christmas Play magnify

I remember being in the plays at church when I was a child at home .I always enjoyed them even though I was bashful. These are great peaceful memories to me now.

My mother would take crepe paper( do they still make that stuff ) and make us angel costumes with big wide arms which looked like wings when we raised our arms , pantomiming the story of'
" O little Town of Bethlehem."

This year I was again in the Christmas play as was my youngest granddaughter.

How I enjoyed it and was so proud as I watched my granddaughter as she shared the alphabet of Christmas with other boys & girls.

The most wonderful thing though was to be a part of a play

that 26 people gave their lives & heart to Jesus

after the play ended.

Awesome!

I thought peoples heart was so harden that they didn't feel amazed by a king who took off his royal robes, stepped down from his throne , and came to earth to suffer willingly at man's mocking hands to be a Savior for mankind, to whom soever would believe in him.

I am so glad I could be apart again of this wonderful story full of love for someone beside yourself.

May you come to know Jesus & have a personal relationship with him if you don't.

Blessings to all.

I went bowling tonight with my 2 daughters and grandkids!!!!

O it had been years since I lifted a bowling ball & it was hilarious!!!

They said I was showing them up but I said its beginners luck & I proved it by the time the games was over. I only bowled a 76....

My oldest daughter bowled a 122 and forgot the rest. The 9 year old twins even beat me ....

O what fun!!

absolutely No pictures .LOL

Finally.......

I finished my Knitpicks Socks!!!! http://www.knitpicks.com/Essential%20Tweed%20Sock%20Yarn_YD5420150.html

They feel great on my feet & are a perfect fit. Can't beat Queen kahuna's ( crazy Toes and Heels )measureing.http://www.queenkahuna-creations.com/

Started them back last summer but no interest like I used to have to knit .Its a new year so I will try to get a new pair of socks on the needles and need to start a blanket for my best friends granddaughter who is having her first baby in August. That will be in Crochet.

Our winter is really gonna be cold this week. Suppose to get down to 4* Thursday Night and high Friday be 17*. Now what this does to my old bones is ugly.... Hurts like the dickens, What ever that feels like,it hurts, hurts, hurts.

Guess its time for me to start cooking again. something I have not done much of since i lost my Dear Hubby.

Maybe some chicken & dumplings,I need to try a new chicken soup recipe, anyone have a favorite?

I can't seem to taste tomato based soups anymore so I won't be making any vegetable soup.

I need to organize my closets and clean out kitchen cabinets. So much I could do to get my house in a nice organized state but no one lives here so why bother? Now this isn't me... I always had to have ever thing in a certain order and arrangement but now I don't seem to have anything to give me the desire to get me up and going. OK enough about that.

Time to go eat some breakfast so later all.
